Danny Mims, a veteran of the Vietnam War, shows a flag he kept during the war. The flag is from 1960 when Mr. Mims and his troop of 8 killed a Vietnamese general and found the flag hidden inside the man's coat. The troop kept the flag and had to use it as a tourniquet for a soldier nicknamed “catfish” which left a blood stain on the last white stripe to the American flag. The troop continued to use it when anyone would be injured and sign their name on top of their blood stain. Mr. Mims nickname was NE-HI which was a popular soda brand he was known to drink in his troop. Mr. Mims was the sole survivor out of the 8 soldiers and holds the flag as a way to remember who he calls “his brothers.”
